UT Arlington Men's Basketball Coach Scott Cross said, "I think Coach Beaver will do an outstanding job as Head Basketball Coach at Texas Leadership Charter Academy! He has a relentless work ethic and a desire to improve each and every day. I have no doubt that he will do great things that will make TLCA and the city of Arlington very, very proud." Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball Coach Bill Franey added, "TLCA is making a bold step for the future of the Academy by choosing Coach Beaver to help lead the next generation of students."
Beaver comes to TLCA from Lovelady High School, where he led an underclassmen-laden squad to 17 wins and a playoff berth. His previous experience includes collegiate head coaching positions at Texas A&M International University and Brown Mackie College (Kansas), as well as serving as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Sam Houston State. Beaver was also selected as one of only 25 coaches nationwide as an official ambassador/coach for Pete Carroll's Win Forever organization and has worked at multiple basketball camps for Baylor coach Kim Mulkey.
TLCA will be competing in football, volleyball, basketball, track, and cross country in the TCSAAL at the middle school level this year before adding high school athletics in 2017-2018. TLCA is eyeing an eventual move to UIL in coming years. Beaver is excited at the opportunity to build the program from the ground up. "Being able to come home and start an athletic program is like a dream for me. The fact that the vision is there to join the UIL soon and just the overall tremendous potential that TLCA has in this community lends itself to a very bright future both athletically and academically," said Beaver. "We will develop a comprehensive athletic program that will serve the needs of the students, maximize their potential, and will provide them with the total student-athlete experience. It's a great time to join Eagle Nation!"
