Our History

Texas Leadership Charter Academy (TLCA) has a heart and mission to train leaders with life skills for the 21st century by establishing strong academics, character training, and offer of support to parents and families.
TLCA was formed from a private school (Angelo Christian School) belonging to the Tree of Life Church. With over 40-years of experience, the private school provided quality education to students in and around the San Angelo area. As Senior Pastor of "The Life Church," Dr. Walt Landers wanted to provide the private school’s nurturing academic environment to as many students as possible without charging tuition. His vision was to provide quality education and allow parents the opportunity to make an educational choice regardless of their ability to pay. Following the enactment of the Charter School Legislature, Dr. Landers realized that a charter school was just the avenue he needed to fulfill his vision. Through the help of friends, educators and other countless professionals the charter was drafted and approved by the Texas Education Agency in November of 2008.
In 2009, TLCA opened its doors with 84 faculty and staff members to serve 600 students and their families. The school rapidly began to grow as testimonies from parents to friends, neighbors and co-workers began pouring in. It is through the vision of Founder and CEO, Dr. Landers that TLCA has now grown to four campuses in San Angelo, Midland, Arlington and Abilene. The schools together serve approximately 2,900 students across the state of Texas and seeks to develop leaders with the necessary skills to achieve success.
